Fleet and Family Support Center, Yorktown will hold a career expo for persons with a disability from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Denbigh Community Center in Newport News.
The career expo will include workshops on interviewing skills, how to dress for success, transportation options and government aid.
“Bringing together our community stakeholders to provide a comprehensive career road map for those that experience a disability builds our relationship with the community and strengthens the services we provide to Navy families,” said Michele Jett Garrard, director of Fleet and Family Support Center.
The career expo will host more than 40 businesses eager to interview and potentially hire people attending this event. Three local school districts, Hampton City Schools, Newport News Public Schools and York County Schools will attend. Juniors and seniors with special needs from these districts, as well as Project SEARCH and New Horizons Career & Technical Education Center will explore this road map to their future.
