State police investigate fatality

Virginia State Police is investigating a pedestrian fatality in York County. The fatality occurred at 7:40 p.m. Oct. 8 in the 200 block of Bypass Road.
A 2013 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling on Bypass Road when it struck a male pedestrian who crossed in front of the vehicle, according to a Virginia State Police press release. The Volkswagen was unable to stop in time to avoid the pedestrian. The Volkswagen then struck a 2011 Ford Edge.
The male pedestrian, Michael Craine, 68, of Isle of Man, United Kingdom, died at the scene. He and his wife were not in a pedestrian crosswalk on Bypass Road, the release stated. His wife was not struck and made it safely to the other side.
The driver of the Volkswagen, an adult male resident of Williamsburg, was not injured in the crash, nor was the driver of the Ford.
The crash remains under investigation.
