County officials are warning residents of a coastal storm this weekend and have opened facilities for residents to park their vehicles.

Rain is expected throughout the weekend as part of a coastal storm, according to the National Weather Service Wakefield Office. The area is under a coastal flood warning for the weekend. Minor coastal flooding is possible around high tide Saturday, with moderate coastal flooding expected around high tide Saturday night and again Sunday. Areas near Jamestown may see major flooding near high tide Sunday.

Strong winds are expected to build starting Friday evening and continuing through the weekend. Sustained winds are anticipated to be in the mid-20s, with guests into the 30s. Winds should subside in the late afternoon on Sunday.

Storm surge flooding will occur during high tide in low-lying areas. Coastal erosion is expected in areas normally impacted by high winds and waves. Flooding is expected to peak during high tides on Sunday.

Chisman Creek Park, 1314 Wolf Trap Road, has been opened for residents to move vehicles out of low-lying areas. Vehicles may also be moved to the McReynolds Athletic Complex, 412 Sports Way. Vehicles should not be parked at public schools.
