Citizens are invited to help celebrate York County’s high school aged youth by nominating a deserving student for one of the County’s 2020 Outstanding Youth Award Scholarships sponsored each year by the Board of Supervisors and the Youth Commission.

Nominations in the categories of community service, compassion, courage, and overall achievement are due at the Parks and Recreation office by 5 p.m. Feb. 19. A $1,000 scholarship for post-high school education or vocational training will be awarded in each of these four categories. Nominees must be residents of York County and currently enrolled in grades 9 through 12 in a public, private or home school.

Once they are received, the nominations are reviewed by a selection committee, and the four award recipients are formally recognized at a dinner reception in their honor and at the Board of Supervisors meeting in May. All nominees will receive a letter from the Board of Supervisors congratulating them on their nomination.

Program details and nomination forms are available for downloading on the York County Youth Commission’s website at www.ycyc.info. Hard copies of the nomination forms are also available at the following locations: Yorktown and Tabb Libraries; Williamsburg and James City County Libraries (rack space permitting); the Children and Family Services office at the Griffin-Yeates Center (1490 Government Road, Williamsburg); and, the Parks and Recreation office at 5338-G George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown (located in the Washington Square Shopping Center in the Grafton area).
