A body found on the beach in Yorktown on Tuesday has been identified as a local woman.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Roberta Beale, of Lackey, according to a post on the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

“The investigation and Medical Examiner’s Office did not indicate any signs of foul play,” the post stated. “Our sincere sympathy goes out to the family of Mrs. Beale.”

Deputies and investigators responded to the beach in the 600 block of Water Street on Tuesday afternoon, according to an earlier post. Someone who was walking in the area had spotted the body and reported it.

The FBI, National Park Service and Virginia Marine Resources Commission were working with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.
