A local man has been arrested on charges of second-degree murder and using a firearm in commission of a felony after a Friday night shooting.

Brian Keith Patterson, 58, is charged in the death of his wife, Princess Chapman, according to a Facebook post made by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a call at 8:31 p.m. in the 1200 block of Penniman Road, the post stated. They found Chapman deceased inside the home, and they took Patterson into custody there.

“This is a devastating tragedy to this community and to our county,” the post stated. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends and neighbors.”

Patterson is being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
