COVID-19 cases on Peninsula rise to 219

Tuesday’s report from the Virginia Department of Health shows 219 COVID-19 cases in the Peninsula Health District.

James City County has 119 of those cases, with 57 in Newport News, 25 in York County, 14 in Williamsburg and four in Poquoson.

Statewide, cases rose almost 16 percent to 3,333, breaking 3,000 for the first time. There have been 63 deaths from the disease.

New statistics from the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association show there are 589 patients currently hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19. An additional 594 people are in hospitals with pending COVID-19 test results.

About 408 with confirmed or pending test results are in the ICU, and 283 are on a ventilator, the hospital associated stated.

There are 692 total ventilators in use at hospitals across the state. That is 27 percent of ventilators on hand.

No numbers of recovered patients are available, as the Virginia Department of Health does not provide them.
