To the editor:
One of the items on the ballot Nov. 5 will be to select two directors to represent York County on the Colonial District of the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD).
The Colonial District includes York County, James City County, New Kent, Williamsburg and Charles City. VASWCD is a private nonprofit association of 47 soil and water conservation districts in Virginia. VASWCD provides and promotes leadership in the conservation of natural resources through stewardship and education programs. It coordinates conservation efforts statewide to focus effectively on issues identified by local member districts. Its mission is to serve and strengthen soil and water conservation districts in the stewardship of natural resources.
Who better to represent the Colonial District than Pamela A. Mason? Ms. Mason has extensive experience that qualifies her to be one of the two directors. She is a marine scientist supervisor for the Center for Coastal Resources Management at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. She is actively involved in her professional community in Chesapeake Bay, coastal and tidal wetland management.
She is a published author in her field and has participated on numerous state, regional and international work groups, policy teams and roundtables.
I have known Ms. Mason for about 10 years and know her to be a committed and hard-working individual. I urge you to support Ms. Mason on Election Day. Her experience makes her the right choice.
