Yorktown is for lovers

Virginia definitely is for lovers, and it’s for tourism and good business too. For one week this month, there has been no better place to find that out than at Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown.

Virginia Tourism’s life-sized LOVE artwork has been visiting the area Nov. 9-16 as part of a state and local partnership to promote tourism. The artwork, 16 feet long and more than 6 feet high, makes for great photos, and many of your friends and neighbors have probably already shared them on social media. There’s still a few days left, if you’re catching this edition early!

More than 190 permanent LOVE letters, called LOVEworks, exist in towns, cities and at Welcome Centers across the Commonwealth, each reflecting the uniqueness of the community in which it stands. The artwork highlights the importance of tourism in Virginia. In 2018, tourism generated $26 billion in revenue, supported 234,000 jobs and provided $1.8 billion in state and local taxes for the Commonwealth.

But perhaps the best part of this piece of artwork is the awesome photos. We hope you had or will have a chance to see it, whether at the Maritime Market on Nov. 9, the Harvest Festival on Nov. 16 or anytime in between.

Visitors to the LOVEwork are encouraged to take pictures and share them on social media. You can share them on Facebook through both Virginia is for Lovers and Visit Yorktown. Tag pictures on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #visityorktown. By doing so, you will be entered for a chance to win prizes like tickets to Blues, Brews & BBQ in the spring, a $25 gift card to Riverwalk Restaurant, a $25 gift card to Water Street Grille, “Virginia is for Lovers” gear from Patriot Tours & Provisions, and more.

You can find more information at Virginia.org/LOVE, by calling York County Tourism Development at 890-3500, or by finding Visit Yorktown on social media.
