Woman’s Club deserves plaudits

Among the many great organizations doing work here in our community, the Yorktown Woman’s Club stands out.

The club’s February Art Show is a tradition that dates back more than 50 years and helps York County Schools students in all grades get recognition for their great work in areas like watercolor, mixed media, photography and oil paints. This year, 38 students won first place in the different age groups and categories.

The show is quite a reward for the students’ hard work. They get a chance to receive ribbons and certificates, see their work on display, have it go on to compete at a district level and even get a cupcake reception — perhaps their favorite part.

In addition to doing the art show, the club also supports things like the Food Closet, Watermen’s Museum, Meals on Wheels, Bargain Box, the Ecuadorean Children’s Mission, Natasha House, Avalon House, Pet Pantry and other things. The club also does a veterans’ fishing trip and picnic in conjunction with Yorktown Rotary, a very fitting tribute for these veterans who have served our country well.

We extend our thanks to the Yorktown Woman’s Club for their dedication to making a difference in their community.
