The York County Voter Registration Office has moved to a new, expanded facility to serve York County voters.
The new office will be located in the Washington Square Shopping Center, 5322 George Washington Memorial Highway. Through the Nov. 5 election, citizens can visit the new location as well as the old location at 224 Ballard St., according to a press release from York County Public Information Officer Gail Whittaker, and voter registration and absentee voting will be available at both sites subject to statewide deadlines.
“The new site offers a central location that is easy to find with plenty of parking,” the press release stated.
Following the election, the office will make announcements regarding closing of the Ballard Street location, the press release stated.
Additional announcements will also be forthcoming about a satellite site in the Williamsburg area, according to voter registrar Walt Latham. That site will be open for absentee voting around election time, Latham said. He also said the hope is to open that location once or twice a week on a regular basis.
Absentee voting for the Nov. 5, 2019, general election began statewide on Sept. 20. Qualified Virginia voters may vote absentee in-person at their local voter registration office or by mail.
To vote absentee, registered voters must meet one of 20 eligibility requirements listed on the Virginia Absentee Ballot Application and at elections.virginia.gov/absentee.
“If you can’t make it to the polls on Election Day, casting an absentee ballot is a great option,” said Department of Elections Commissioner Christopher Piper. Voters can request an absentee ballot online at elections.virginia.gov/absentee.
Important dates to remember for voting in the Nov. 5 general election:
