In Week 10 Virginia High School League rankings, Tabb High School and York High School were both holding firm in their playoff positioning.

With the regular season wrapping up, York County will likely see two teams in the playoff race. York remains the No. 2 seed in the Class 3 Region A, while Tabb still holds the sixth seed. With their ninth win of the season, York clinched at least a share of the Bay Rivers District title.

Tabb has won four of its last five games to end the season and has remained a solid constant in the playoff rankings. With as hot as the Tigers have been the last few weeks, they will be heading into the playoffs with the right amount of momentum.

The York County community has been in shock since Oct. 26 following the loss of three Tabb High School students in a car crash.

Conner Guido, Logan Koontz and Naile Tairov died in the crash. Logan was a football player.

Coach Matt Lawson said losing a teammate has been the roughest thing he and his team have had to go through. However, he believes football gives the Tigers a bit of a break as they continue to grieve.

“It’s been tough,” Lawson said. “Football has given us a break, but Logan was such a big part of the team that it’s hard to get a break from it. But it’s definitely been rough.

Tabb finished the season with a 5-5 record after a regular season finale loss on a Thursday night to Jamestown High School. Lawson felt like his group played hard in the loss, despite having an early lead. With the playoffs starting, he feels the Tiger team is ready.

“We’ll get back at it,” Lawson said. “We are going to have to manage the clock and not turn the ball over. We have to make sure we are getting three and outs early.”
