The York High School football team finished a stellar season with a 41-18 regional playoff loss to Phoebus High School.

The York Falcons football team finished its best season to date, with an 11-1 record on the year after a Class 3A regional semifinal loss to a tough Phoebus High School team. Both teams kept pace with each other in the first half as they ran the ball effectively. At halftime, Phoebus held a 14-12 lead over York. Jaylen Floyd-Brown had the two scores for York in the first half.

The third quarter was all Phoebus as they shut out York that quarter and scored 20 points as well. Momentum was riding in the Phantoms’ direction, and with a strong second half, they were able to hold off York. The Falcons fell to Phoebus last season at Darling Stadium.

“I am extremely happy with our season,” York coach Doug Pereira said. “This was an awesome group of kids to coach. I am very proud of their efforts and attitudes throughout the season. This was a true family feeling.”

York’s season featured them earning a Bay Rivers District title going undefeated in the regular season to go along with earning the No. 2 seed in the Class 3A region. They defeated Lafayette High School, a team that had dominated the district going back to 2012. Even though the Falcons didn’t reach the state portion of the season, they accomplished a lot.
