Former Tabb High School soccer standout Derek Cook is the eighth CNU men’s soccer player to earn All-American honors.

Former Tiger standout and current Christopher Newport University men’s soccer defender Derek Cook was selected a NCAA Division III All-American by the United Soccer Coaches. As a team captain for the CNU men’s soccer team, Cook became the eighth player in the school’s history to earn All-American honors. He was also selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region team.

Cook helped CNU earn a conference championship and an at-large bid to the Division III NCAA tournament. Statistically, Cook was the catalyst of the best defense in school’s history. They allowed only 12 goals in more than 2,000 minutes and also helped the team compile 11 shutouts. He started every game at center back, which led to him being named the Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Offensively, Cook also accounted for 18 points.

At Tabb, he played both as a defender and at midfield for the Tigers. As a junior and a senior, he earned All-State honors before going on to CNU.
