Locals have notable finishes at indoor state meet

- Jennifer Wagner took second place in the pole vault at the Class 3 indoor state meet.
York County student-athletes had some notable finishes at the Class 3 and 4 indoor state meets.
Tabb High School, Grafton High School and York High School all competed in the indoor state meets. Grafton competed well in the Class 4 state meet, as did York and Tabb in the Class 3 state meet.
Grafton had three relay teams place in the top six. The 4×200 relay team placed third, while the 4×400 and 4×800 placed fifth and sixth. Madison Greene finished sixth in the 300 meters. For the boys, the 4×200 and 4×800 relay teams had the highest finishes, with both teams finishing second. Alex Murphy placed fourth in the 1,000 meter run, while Lorenzo Camobreco finished fifth. Connor Massigan finished seventh in the 55 meter hurdles. Ben Madrigal, Murphy and Zachary Sturm all placed in the top 10 in the 3,200-meter run event.
For Tabb, the girls team had numerous top-10 finishes. The 4×200 relay team finished seventh, while 4×400 team placed sixth and the 4×800 placed eight. Nyla Blair placed fourth in the 300 meters and seventh in the 55 meters. Kate Fiest finished seventh in the 1,600 meter run, and Beatrice Sears finished sixth in the 55 meter hurdles. On the boys’ side, Joseph MacFarlane and Michael Menapace Jr. placed eighth in the 500 meters and the 1,600 meter events, respectively. Nicholas Smerlis placed eight in the 3,200 meter event.
For the York girls, the 4×800 relay team placed third and the 4×200 placed eighth. Jennifer Wagner finished as the state runner-up in the pole vault. Skylar Haskiell and Caroline Allmon finished fifth and 11th in the 1,000 meter event.
The Poquoson High School boys’ team competed well in the Class 2A state meet. Their 4×200 team finished fourth, while Bailey Green and Colby Baker finished sixth in the 300 meter and high jump, respectively.
